Reece's Super Superhero party

Posted on 11 July 2015

Our eldest boy Reece recently turned 5- umm where did those years go?!! We usually try to keep our birthday parties pretty low key but turning 5 is a pretty big deal... plus I had some major creative block on the card front and was looking for a fun project! Reece requested a "Super Hero Ninja Turtle party', so that's what he got.

Since my baking endeavours can turn out pretty dicey looking (I like to refer to it as 'rustic baking' ;) ) I decided to focus on party games rather than creating one of those epic themed desert tables you see on Pinterest. The basic idea behind the games was that the kids were at Superhero school and needed to complete a whole bunch of tasks to graduate as fully fledged Super Heroes... and get cake (pretty sure it was the cake that sold them on this!). They were each given a card to wear that had six activities on it and got a sticker each time they completed one.

The party started with a 'punch box' where they needed to practice their Super Hero powers by punching through the crepe paper covered holes. The box was smashed up pretty quickly, before I could get a photo!

They then moved onto Web Shooting. I got some silly string from the $2 shop and made some labels to cover the cans. I made a crepe paper web and printed some villain photos out and ta-da, done! The kids freaking loved this!

Next on the agenda was the leaping of some buildings. My initial plan had been to do this on the trampoline but the weather couldn't make up it's mind so we stayed under the eaves of the house instead.

After that the little Super Heroes needed to detonate some bombs. We threw out a whole bunch of black balloons and they jumped all over them and popped them. So simple, but such a hit!

Then it was time to splat some baddies. This was a last minute idea after I saw some rocket shaped water balloons at The Warehouse. The only problem was when filled up they didn't look at all like they were supposed to on the packet...in fact they looked pretty dodgy...cue chuckles from the Adults! Haha.

How adorable is my little Hulk nephew?!! Major heart eyes!

The last activity on the agenda was eating the food. Mission accomplished! The cake was inspired by this cake topper I saw on Pinterest. The inside was marbled yellow, red and blue.

After the food it was time for graduation. The Super Heroes each got a certificate and were now officially part of Reece's Justice League.

My super little family :)
